سرطان در دختران و زنانی که در سنین باروری هستند ناشایع نیست. در طی دهههای گذشته به دلیل پیشرفت در تشخیص و درمان سرطان میزان بقا در این بیماران افزایش یافته است. این بیماران اغلب درمانها و عوارض ناشی از آن را تجربه میکنند که منجر به کاهش کیفیت زندگی در طی و بعد از درمان میشود. از میان این موارد میتوان به کاهش باروری و عملکرد جنسی اشاره کرد. پیشرفتهایی اخیرا در زمینه حفظ باروری بدست آمده است که به تعدادی از افرادی نجات یافته بعد از درمان سرطانهای دستگاه تناسلی در دوران کودکی اجازه میدهد که در آینده بچهدار شوند. این موضوع انتخابهای پیش رو و استراتژیهای اختصاصی برای حفظ باروری در زنان نوجوانان و جوان سرطانی را مورد بحث و بررسی قرار میدهد.
