فرایند اسپرماتوژنز از لومن لوله­های اسپرم­ساز در قاعده­ی این لوله­ها آغاز شده و پس از مهاجرت به غشای پایه مجدّداً در لومن خاتمه می­یابد. ما برآن بودیم تا آثار محافظ کننده­ی هرمون­های ملاتونین و گرلین را بر فرایند اسپرماتوژنز و به­خصوص بر سلول­های بنیادی اسپرماتوگونی (SSC) به عنوان دو هرمون به­نسبت نوظهور بررسی کنیم. از راه­های حفظ باروری در کودکان مبتلا به سرطان که مورد شیمی­درمانی و پرتودرمانی قرار می­گیرند، استفاده از فرایند انجماد است. این انجماد دارای دو روش انجماد آهسته (cryopreservation) و انجماد سریع (vitrification) است. مداخله­ی ملاتونین می­تواند موجب حفظ کیفیت اسپرم­هایی که انجماد برروی آن­ها ایجاد شده بود، گردد؛ همان­طوری که گرلین نیز از سلول­های جنسی در برابر سمیّت­های ناشی از آسیب­های ایسکمیک و اپوپتوز پاتولوژیک محافظت می­کند. مرور حاضر نشان می­دهد که مداخله­ی in-vitro و in-vivo ملاتونین و گرلین می­تواند برحفاظت از باروری در چنین شرایطی مؤثّر باشد و نیز می­تواند به منظور بهبود کیفیت اسپرم­ها در فن­آوری کمک باروری استفاده گردد. پیشنهاد می­گردد مقالات پژوهشی اصیل دراین حوزه به سمت مطالعات انسانی و البته با رعایت اخلاق در پژوهش سوق داده شوند.
